This is really annoying me..the program is supposedly based on the idea that the public choose who is to star in the West End show - so why in the past 3 weeks when the public phone vote has meant that Helena is always bottom, Andrew Loyd Webber always saves her ?? - The public clearly don't think she is the right person ?? - why should we bother phoning...or indeed paying to see the show...
Basically the whole show is a publicity stunt in order to get people to go and see the production when it opens in the West End.
A friend of mine rung the Box Office the other day and asked what performances the winner would be playing at (there are 8 a week I think) as she'd heard the winner would star in 6 and the alternate - a professional actress who has already been cast - will appear twice a week. The Box Office told her they thought it would be the other way round. The winner of the show would appear only twice a week.
Okay, now that was just the Box Office's opinion and they may be wrong but all I can say is that if it's true it just confirms that the whole thing is one big cynical publicity enterprise.
How ethical is it that the BBC are in effect using licence payer's money to advertise the forthcoming productionof TSOM?
Andrew Lloyd Webber and his sidekick probably have recouped their investment in advance bookings by now.
ALW is a multi millionaire anyway, I'm sure he wouldn't miss the 4 million it's costing to stage.
And is it just me or does anyone else feel slightly uncomfortable about the way he is acts with the Marias?
Rant over - I've got to go and watch it now!!!!
See, I pointed out that this was going to happen MONTHS ago, when it was first announced that the programme was going to be made, and did anyone listen to me? I should be getting paid for this!
