I have been laid off from my job as I'm less experienced than they thought. I haven't told my mum as I am embarrassed as I'm scared she will judge me as I was sacked from a job before. My boss has kept me on until I find another job. When I go interviews I gotta pretend like I'm going to work.

If they’re keeping you on until you find alternative employment, what’s the problem? Tell your mum when you get another job.

hm, when it shows up in the latest posts column, the last word in your question is missing...

But I'd tell my mother, she must know how tricky the job market is these days. Why would she judge you, anyway? Do you not get along?

Yes
I wonder why my answer was removed. It seemed to obey all the rules. I also said 'yes' tell your mum, but pointed out that 'pretend like I'm going to work' indicated a reason why she was unemployable. I also wondered if she were American and possibly an unlamented ex-poster. Ah well.
How old are you and what was the job. Full time or after school. Why were you sacked before. Do you live at home
Yes, be honest with your Mum - tell her as you have told us the reason for you being laid off.

Better to have her as an ally than create division by using subterfuge.

Yes, I do think you should tell your mum, be honest with her. I think she would be more cross if you pretended you were going to work when you werent.
If you feel you must lie to your Mum, at least make up a better one than that - tell her for example you are after a better job but they wouldn't release you for interview so you gave in your notice and are now lining up several interviews.

Is it unusual to get the sack and keep the job till you find a new one?
