Greetings to everyone from the fine county of Suffolk on our annual celebratory day. We're feeling so good about ourselves today that I hear we've even relaxed border restrictions between us and Norfolk for the day. (People from Norfolk are normally only allowed into Suffolk if, as well as a valid visa, they can produce a certificate confirming that they're sane. There aren't many people from Norfolk who can meet that requirement!).

As one who spent the first 18 years of my life in Suffolk, may I wish you a belated happy Suffolk Day. I still love that glorious county and visit as often as possible for its big skies and wonderful coast.

Thank you, Diddlydo.

Our county's coastline is indeed the jewel in its crown. (Walberswick and Southwold are both superb). But, as I'm sure you know, it has other treasures too, such as Lavenham (often cited as the most beautiful village in England) and Bury St Edmunds (for a bit of 'class' but without any sort of pretension). Even my birth town Ipswich (which is now just a 10-minute train ride from me) is very much 'on the up' these days, especially with the Waterfront developments.
I visited Ipswich, and Felixstowe docks (in my 44 tonner)
Question Author
Felixstowe Docks probably isn't the most scenic part of the Suffolk coastline ;-)
Yes, but the Orwell Bridge to get there is fabulous.
I have just scrolled down to 'related questions'.

It's like Groundhog Day.

The Orwell Bridge is lovely when viewed from a lorry cab (or, say, from top deck of a bus). It's boring for car drivers though, due to the height of the walls on either side :(
The rather sad thing you see from the lorry cab is the signs pointing towards the freephones for The Samaritans.
like Groundhog Day

are you any closer to Andie McDowell yet?
Is that the County Prison?
I hope you had a good day on the 21st. If you have your inoculations and bring your passport you can visit it us up north on July 27th for Norfolk Day.

Catching up a bit . . .

Framlingham Castle is interesting, Hopkirk, (although largely unknown to many people, even here in Suffolk, until Ed Sheeran wrote 'Castle on the Hill') but I wouldn't rate it as our county's finest attraction.

DTC: We only imprison spies from Norfolk there ;-)

William51: Thank you for your kind invitation. I think my visa for Norfolk is still valid, so I might well join you on your special day if the queues at Diss passport control aren't too long. In the meantime, I'll keep listening to 'Hev Yew Gotta Loight Boy', to try to brush up on the language up there ;-)
