After I had my daughter, I seem to have lost the fear, although I still check the escape routes and count the seats to the nearest exit. Have even flown to America twice now, and wasn't at all afraid only bored. Keep thinking positively and try to fly!!
Air travel is the safest form of transport. You life is more at risk by instead travelling by car, train, bus etc.
But why not consider Virgin Atlantic's "Flying without Fear" course? It is available at many airports throughout the country at a cost of 199 + VAT. The course lasts one day and includes a talk by Virgin Atlantic pilots who explain everything that you need to know about flying, assistance and advice from various Virgin Atlantic employees in lots of different roles (ground staff, crew etc), a session with a psychotherapist, a 45-minute flight (although not on a Virgin Atlantic aircraft) and signed certificate. Not only that, but you are also fed throughout the day. Those who take the course will receive a complimentary relaxtion CD and book, too.
The next courses are: Birmingham (17th Sept), Manchester (5th Nov), Gatwick (12 Nov), Southampton (3rd Dec) and Heathrow, Luton and Newcastle (dates to be announced shortly).
200 (plus VAT) is a lot of money to anybody, but this would really be money well spent, especially if you do overcome that fear!
