Unusual cat?
10 Answers
Is this at all unusual? The other day I saw a lady taking her dog for a walk and just behind her walked a cat. When I pointed this cat out to the lady, she informed me that it was her cat, and whenever she took the dog out the cat would follow them during the walk and would return with them when they made for home. If during the walk the lady stopped to talk to someone the cat would lay down until she and the dog continued on their way.

The dog is very bouncy and energetic and the cat is not phased by this at all. If we stop to throw the ball for the dog, the cat will just lie down at our feet until we move on!
The cat is also so bold that he will quite happily walk up to other dogs in area when they are on leads and greet them!
I have to say - i don't think this behaviour is common!

I used to have a cat that followed me whenever I went for a walk - sometimes I'd run as fast as I could up the road cos I was scared he'd get run over so I'd try to run really fast and leave him behind lol. He even used to follow me down the local shop - he'd sit on the corner and wait for me to come back out then follow me home again!
We have also have cat which follows us every time we go anywhere and we have also tried running about to lose it because it follows us to the shop. Its across a road and it can get a tad stressful when its busy and it charges across. It sits outside the sliding doors and waits!! Its really nervous of other people. We get some weird looks, lol.
Yeah our cats all do this too, but they treat the dogs with different amounts of respect depending which one it is. One they have decided is so flinmsy as to be beneath contempt and great big dog as he is, he's below the cats in the pecking order. The other scraggy little mongrel is sharper and gets treated with much more respect, but they all go out for walks together.
