Well funnily enough, yes, but I always check the weather specifically for St Ives - although isn't there a St Ives in Boston or somewhere?

Well it's supposed to be nice when we're down there. We're not going now until Sunday morning as our uncle is having a party to make up for all the things he missed while he was in hospital / nursing care. OH wants to go to the party for an hour or two and then drive straight down to St Ives, meaning we would get there about 21:30. I've said no, I'm not just shooting off from the party.

He keeps on and on and on. Honestly I am going to brain him if he doesn't stop badgering me about it!

There's a St Ives near Cambridge. The funniest one I heard a few years back, it may even have been on AB, was of the lady in Devon who was travelling to Barnstaple. On the way she witnessed a minor accident. As it wasn't an emergency she rang the operator, asking to be put through to Barnstaple police station. After a few moments' confusion it transpired that she had been put through to Barnstable police station, in Mass. USA! It all ended up good-humouredly.

In my trade plating days (delivering cars around the country) one of my colleagues drove a vehicle to St Ives, Cornwall, when it should have gone to St Ives, Cambridgeshire. Another guy phoned head office from Kings Lynn to say that the town was bigger than he thought it was and he was having trouble finding Kings Lynn Ford. It turned out that he should have been in Kingswinford, in the West Midlands ;-)

I got stopped by a guy while walking along a street in Wymondham, Norfolk, who was looking for the firm where he was due to go for a job interview. When he showed me the company's letterhead, I saw that they were based in an office block, called 'Wymondham House', in Birmingham!

I've read of people booking the wrong flights because they've not realised that Dominica and the Dominican Republic are totally different countries, in different parts of the world.

When I lived in Ecclesfield (on the edge of Sheffield) Wentworth Woodhouse (on the edge of Rotherham) wasn't far away. Every time there was a major golf event on at Wentworth (in Surrey), visitors would call in at our local shop, asking for directions to the golf tournament!

This is my favourite story of people going to the wrong place though ;-)

more like 15C at the moment, due to decline to 13 and more of the wet stuff - officially (met Office) we have only had 20 once and I have only seen it twice on the car thermometer....b-awful!

There is a Torbay in New Zealand too! My son lives in the Cambridge St Ives and we live in Devon. We have to clarify when we say it takes 4 or 5 hours to drive there!

I have written before about friends (pro photographers) who theoretically flew from HK to Chengdu....they arrived 3.5 hours later, got off the plane, caught a taxi in to town and commented that they didn't know Chengdu had such a large lake....

They then discovered that they had been flown to Qingdao, home of the beer and on the coast....it's like being in Houston and instead of flying to Richmond CA, they had flown to Richmond VA - and about the same distance apart, i.e. a 5 hour flight....Ooops

a colleague of mine flew to Monterey for a conference and wondered why everyone was speaking Spanish. He was south of the border, in Monterrey.
