Bidding On Ebay
8 Answers
I've put a bid in for something on eBay and the bidding ends in just over an hours time.
Have never done this before and can't work out how you know if others have put in a bid .
Can someone explain it to me please? TIA.

If others have bid then it will say how many bids - this does not mean how many are actually bidding on it, rather is how many bids have been made.
Then we come to proxy bids - this is where you put in a maximum you want to bid, then when person 2 bids more than you, but less than your maximum, ebay will then place a bid for you. Then if sombody else puts in an amount the sam as your maximum, your bid will take precedence as it was the earlier bid.
When placing yourmaximum bid make it an odd amount - that way if sombody bids £50 and your maximum is £50.48, then you would be the highest bidder.

I'm the only bidder up to now and I've only offered .25p over the asking price although I would pay more for the item.
I'm just wondering if people will start offering more when it gets near to the end of the bidding time and how would I know.
Would I perhaps get an email to say someone else has made a bid?

Put in a maximum you'd want to pay. Then if there's a bidding war you stand a better chance.
If you get outbid you can bid again.
Have some windows open with different bids in ready to submit.
Good luck.
Or if there is a buy it now option - that does what it says, or if there is make an offer, then you tell the seller how much you want to pay - they may or may not accet it
