Michal Mosley - Charlatan Or Guru?
14 Answers
I was surprised to learn that Michael has not ever worked as any kind of doctor. He went straight to the BBC on the trainee producer scheme after university so has worked in the media since 1985. He certainly knows how to manipulate the media and generate publicity.
What are your opinions of his health, fitness and lifestyle advice? Fan or not?

But I'm not a fan of his very low calorie boot camp approach. I know there are several esteemed physicians who have used it with great success to treat diabetes. But, that is under their care, not for a tv series...and no better than old style strict calorie counting in the hands of someone crash dieting.

I was amused at his pushing of his idea of intermittent fasting - not eating for 14 hours overnight. I have my last meal of the day around 5pm and my breakfast around 9am, so apparently, I am an intermittent faster of 16 hours! Who knew?
I did watch his last series that was on tv a month or so ago. He was promoting the sort of health foods that aren't eaten in a regular diet and was disappointed by that.

I don't see him as a guru, rather a mouthpiece for trends.
//5:2 diet
Mosley is credited with popularising the 5:2 diet, based on his close friend Dr Valter Longo's research and his bestselling book the Longevity Diet. After appearing in August 2012 in the BBC2 Horizon documentary Eat, Fast & Live Longer. In early 2013 he published The Fast Diet with Mimi Spencer.//

I have found some of the programmes he has presented over the years to be interesting and largely common sense.

Barry, I thought he'd practiced for awhile before entering the media spotlight. I assume if he earned a degree, he's still entitled to the title.
