Listen to the patients and on 80% of the cases will give you the diagnosis without examining them,

Mamya, quite a few of my ancestors died of "old age" in their 80s or even 70s. I've often wondered what that meant but it seemed to cover a multitude of ailments. Surprisingly few seem to have died of cancer; but I suspect those who died of short-term paralysis had probably had strokes.

In the Carry On films patients are laid up in hospital for days with - wait for it - an ingrowing toenail & a broken hand. PMSL

and was the one who certified Virginia Woolf ( no admission to a psych unit wivvart a doctors cert - ie no voluntary admission ever) and a HUGE collection of Blake first editions
so no wonder he treated the students like crap

( and modesty prevented one from saying - yeah he is far to interested in private practice. Sr Charles Lander ( sisters were named after wards and not surnames ) whom he used to address as "Sis!" - as in walking on the ward and shoutiing - shop sis

I know this is a light hearted thread but I much preferred being told what was wrong and was to be done as was the case in the 60's to the current way of being told what is wrong and asked what I want done. I always reply, "You're the blerdy expert - you tell me what I should have done."
Apparently, I must be given choices. I don't want choices, I want the doctor to treat me in the same way you'd treat your dad if he had the same condition. How should I know what is the best option out of 10?

I think one of the more poignant films from "those days" is Twice around the Daffodils. And the nurses are quite dishy!
