David Bowie died over 5 and a half years ago. Doesn't time fly? Was he the greatest man ever to live. Discuss.

jno Not a fan of novelty type records, didn't Ken Dodd or Jasper Carrot sing this?
Why would a rock star record it?
Sorry, still not convinced of his so called talent.
Was he a musician, did he write songs?
Perhaps he had a talent I don't know about?
Barsel. With you on the Merseybeats original of Sorrow. Far better than Bowie's cover.

The Laughing Gnome was recorded before Bowie was successful and reissued by an opportunistic ex-label to chart success in the early 70s.
He wrote the vast majority of the songs he recorded.

You don't like him. That's fine. I can't stand Bruce Springsteen, Van Morrison, Level 42, M People, Marillion, Fine Young Cannibals et al.
Sorry Barsel, you're quite right, they'd dropped the "Beats" part of their name when they released Sorrow, and were just The Merseys. Same band though, just a different name.
It would be a bland, monotonous world if we all liked the same sort of music. You could force feed me Tamla Motown 24/7 for a year and it would still leave me cold. Yet it is one of the more popular genres in recent musical history. Each to his/her own and grateful for it.
Not too shabby a version of Knock On Wood.

Quote right Ken. I feel the same about much soft rock. Each to their own.
ah you never know what rock stars will do next, Barsel, always seeking to be outrageous!

And let's not forget the late great master of innuendo, George Formby.
oh yes, "When I'm Washing Innuendos"
Little stick of Blackpool rock. Classic.
Too shabby for me Tony, prefer Eddie Floyd version. A little slow, but much better than Bowie.
jno, Saw this when I was refreshing my memory of Tommy Steele songs,
///Tommy Steele was undoubtedly Britain's first great Rock and Roll idol.///
That really made me chuckle.
What is rock and roll about Little White Bull, What a Mouth, Flash Bang Wallop etc.
I must admit I was never really into any British singers after hearing Elvis, Buddy, Eddie, then Motown.
My taste in music came from America and probably still does.
