Two Weddings!
16 Answers
We have just received two invitations to weddings.
One has a Peaky Blinder theme, with guests to dress accordingly; the other states 'strictly no mobile phones at any time. Official photos only'.
Which will be the most controversial?

Surely the theme is 'wedding'. I've nowt against fancy dress parties but not at a wedding.
The 'no phones' wedding is my grand-daughter's and I applaud her for it. She says she is fed up of people looking at life through a phone/tablet instead of soaking up the atmosphere and properly immersing themselves in the occasion. She doesn't want to get married for Instagram likes.

Personally I wouldn’t do the Peaky Blinders dressing up, I’d just go in my best wedding attire, I doubt I’d be refused entry ;)
And I’d take my mobile to the other one but have it on silent, and not take any photos with it.
I don’t think either are controversial..their wedding, their rules (but don’t expect everyone to dress up).

Having a themed wedding forces guest to spend quite a lot of money on hiring, or buying, suitable attire to fit that theme.
In the case of Peaky Blinders, I doubt that there are many men's hire shops that could provide suitable clothing for all guys who're attending. That would mean that they'd each have to fork out hundreds of pounds for clothing that they might wear just once. I'd certainly hesitate to accept an invitation to such a wedding, as my finances simply aren't that good.
However I have to admit that it can look great when everyone goes along with the theme:

Buen, I live very close to the Black Country Living Museum where some of PB is filmed. They have regular PB themed night which are always a sell out. Everyone gets dressed up and some of the ladies costumes are fabulous.
You would not believe how popular the PB short back and sides haircut is amongst the younger men here; us older blokes remember the haircut from our childhood as nit prevention :D

We did a peaky blinders one a few years ago. It was fine for most of the men who just turned up in suits with the added flat cap. Women had to find where they sold flapper dresses which I was surprised wasn't as difficult as you may think. Must admit I find some people and their mobile phones to be annoying.
