Legalising Cannabis?????
15 Answers
So there are arguments for and against legalising cannabis in the UK. It seems to me that the balance of opinion is shifting towards legalising. Recently three British MP’s (One Labour, One Conservative and one Lib) visited Canada where cannabis was legalised last October. They returned and said that they felt cannabis will be legal in the UK within the next 10 years.
The main arguments for legalising seem to be:
Cannabis sold on the black market is becoming stronger and stronger and some of the skunks can pose serious risk of damage to the users long term mental health. Legalizing would mean that it could be regulated and safer. A lot of the users are also young people and they are at even more risk.
Legalising takes away the crime element bringing loads of money to criminal gangs and brings tax into the economy.
There are medical benefits for some people that could be life changing.
Many, many people are using cannabis even through it’s illegal especially within working class communities. The currently laws therefore criminalise these guys. It’s a class B drug and could lead to 5 years in prison.
I’m have never used any alcohol, drugs or even smoked a cigarette - well apart from when I was a toddler and my alcoholic mum used to get me drunk and laugh at me falling over with her friends. Anyway, it seems to make more sense to legalise now to me. What do you think?
