All of my family suffer from a combination of these conditions and I was doing some research for an MA, thing is nearly everyone who has problems with these who Ive met has had a forceps delivery as a baby so I was just hoping to conduct a poll, if yes or no can you let me know. TIA CT
My brother has dyspraxia but he didnt have a forceps birth, he had an emergency c section. The only thing the doctors think it is related to is when he was very small he had loads of ear infections that affected his hearing slightly and also his speech and they seem to think that they are related in some cases.
My son is dyslexic, and my youngest daughter is suspected of having it (she is only 5, so waiting a while to see) neither of them were forceps deliveries..both were uncomplicated speedy births.
Obviously this is just a straw poll but if you take it any further you'd probably want to try to get the information without telling people why you want it. - If people know your theory it can influence what they tell you. You can put the idea into their head.
A bit of the "Ooh now you mention it" syndrome. You might consider a slightly longer set of questions with the foreceps delivery embedded in it.
If you've not already done it it's also wise to consider how you'll analyse the data. That way you'll know what you need to get a statistically significant result before you do your survey and not get into a position where you wish you'd asked more people or a different set of people etc.
Don't forget that people's age may be important because with the increase in elective cesarians the probability of a forceps delivery may well have dropped in recent years which you might have to take into consideration.
Sounds like an interesting excercise - remember even if you prove there's no link you'll have proved something interesting.
For what it's worth my daughter was a forceps delivery and does not have have either of these, my son was an emergency C-section and has mild symptoms of dyslexia
