1D - "Two, we hear, at Royal Academy on the up in erstwhile capital" I believe is DJAKARTA, but I can't parse the first part of the clue.
ARTA = "at RA" backward, so far so good
DJAK = two, we hear; meaning JACK? I can think of "jack" colloquially meaning "nothing" but not two. Is there a meaning I'm not familiar with?
Thanks very much!
