A Turning Point For Boris Johnson
A bad day for the PM, and most of the lethal blows coming from his own party. Can he recover and fight the next General Election.
Boris Johnson faced a wall of fury from all wings of the Conservative party over the UK’s conduct in Afghanistan, with 11 former cabinet ministers among the dozens of MPs and peers expressing their anger and frustration at Britain’s failures in intelligence and preparation.
// During a torrid session in the House of Commons, the overwhelming majority of Tories who spoke condemned Britain’s failure to anticipate the Taliban takeover of Kabul and its perceived humiliation on the world stage. More than 30 Tory MPs spoke against the government, while only a handful voiced support for its actions. //

Thatcher went in 1990 and the conservative s still won the next election but the point is it was a different leader. Thatcher was defeated by the Tories and it’s more likely that it will happen to BJ.

// [Johnson] has a personal wealth of several millions. //
Really…?
// Claims have again surfaced that Boris Johnson often moans his £157,000 salary is not enough to get by on.
The PM had to give up several lucrative gigs when he took office including £275,000 a year to write a weekly column for the Daily Telegraph, slashing his total earnings from a reported £830,000.
Meanwhile his expenses have ramped up, including a divorce settlement with ex-wife Marina Wheeler which is rumoured to have left him ‘cleaned out’.
It is now commonplace to hear Boris complain about money problems, according to Downing Street insiders. //

I find it very odd how some of our resident lefties on here appear to think things will go their way if Johnson goes. In my mind Johnson is a liberal Green and I would have thought exactly what Gromit would have liked. If he goes hopefully the Tories will elect a fiscally sensible PM with proper Tory views. i.e a moderate right winger.

Genuine Tory MPs put service to the country before service to the party. It is increasingly obvious to them that having Johnson as a leader is doing the country a disservice. They can do better.

Ymb,
You have labelled Johnson as a Liberal Green many times, and that is laughable - he just isn’t.
Tora,
Johnson is just not any good. But the voters like him. Not many MPs like him for various reasons. If (or when) Johnson becomes a liability at the ballot box, the men in grey suits will not hesitate to replace him.
Wanting Johnson gone does not mean I want Starmer in No.10. I don’t like him either.

Question Author Raab refused to make a phone call last Friday to arrange evacuation of interpreters. We were told Zac Goldsmith made the call on Saturday instead.
Now, according to the Daily Mail, no call was ever made by anyone.
Given that the government were plotting their own speedy exit well before the runway rioters I would guess that none of their cabinet would have been available for a chat at any time in the last 5 to 7 days
