yeah but no but
I have been told to renew mine - £14 - for three or four months before I turn 70 and can apply for an old baggaz licence which at least is free
so check - - and bear in mind that - get it wrong, your insurance is invalid
' The extension ended in January, you now have to apply as it says.'
'There are delays, however.'
Thanks, both.
But Mamy, what if your expiry date comes and goes and you haven't received your licence or any communication from DVLA ? Is your insurance still valid ?
Thanks, bhg.
This application is for an over 70 with medical conditions which may or may not be of concern but will have to be checked via the DVLA Medical Group. Application etc sent by post weeks ago. Expiry is 22nd Sept. 2021.
I got letter in to renew my driving licence due in October when I will be 73. Said backlog so apply early did it online last Tuesday my licence came in Saturday 4days.
Yes
there is an er obvious difference between OP and ans no 9.
Has anyone noticed?
renew licence - OP - have been/were extended - £14
and ans no 9 - apply for an over 70 old baggaz licence, free
and yes I tried being 69 1/2 on the strength of this post/thread to apply for an over 70 licence and got the bums rush because
I aint over 70
obvious really see
and reading the script I need to renew my licence ( aged 69 1/2) at the cost of £14 which I did last night - for four months. and then over 70 I do it all again, cost - nothing.
I really really wish people would make their questions clear
//so check - - and bear in mind that - get it wrong, your insurance is invalid//
That is incorrect. There are very few grounds that insurers can repudiate Third Party liability. The driver having no licence or the wrong type of licence is not among them.
//NJ - but does it stop them opting out of the comprehensive bit? ie, is your own car still covered?//
They would have to show that either (a) the deficiency contributed to an accident (for example, you drove a vehicle when you knew the brakes were faulty) or (b) you had withheld or misrepresented some information which would have materially effected the premium or would have led to them refusing to provide cover (for example, that you had a number of endorsements that you had failed to disclose).
Not having a valid driving licence because it had expired (as suggested here) would not fall into either of those categories.
