I was just wondering- if God is omnipotent- completely and utterly able to do absolutely anything, doesn't this sort ofundermine his being omnibenevolent. If i was omnipotent, then wouldn't it be so infintessimely easy for me to do any amount of good, that that good wouldn't really mean all that much. I mean, if God has the power to say "let there be light" and there simply is, doesn't that take a lot of the meaning behind the gesture?
Try this simple and childlike approach. Assume God has much the same emotions as Man ("made in his own image"). So you've just created Earth, but it's a bit lonely. You create Man, in your image, with your same emotions. You ask Man to love you, but you don't command it - what would be the point of enforced love ? Love has to come of choice. This absurdly simple view has sustained me since childhood.
