It's entirely down to our perception of ourselves, and the image we believe we present to the world.

In extreme cases, as with body dysmorphia, people can believe that they are too ugly to be seen, and that can produce the sort of radical reactions we find in some celebrities who take extreme measures to change their appearance - Michael Jackson being the most famous and obvious example.

No one should need to 'admit' to having work done. Its not a crime and frankly no one's business. The only ones making a fool of themselves are those that deny they've had 'work' when obviously they have. I've had a boob job -twice -to rectify years of child rearing/breast feeding , tooth whitening and am now seriously considering a mini face lift as Ive inherited one side of the families 'jowls' and am starting to look like my mother, which frankly frightens me, ha ha

I could not agree more.

What interests me, as i pointed out in my post, is society's perception of women (never men, I wonder why not!) who have had some corrections, and are seen to have somehow offended the rest of us in doing so.

I think Michael Jackson is the exception that proves the rule - but fair play, I should have said 'almost never' to be accurate.

I remember her in a non-speaking part in a series called Coupling from years ago, she looks pretty much the same.
