Cat Stolen Classified As Contents Lost?

Hi I am trying to put the data on Confused.com for a quote of car insurance.
I wonder if the catalytic converter is classified as contents lost. It has selection options for theft of car, theft of car and contents, theft of contents.

your insurance should advise but I would have thought contents at the very least - there's a lot of value in those metals stuffed in the cat, esp. if Platinum or Palladium.....your car co should be able to value the

We had one stolen from our truck. Insurance do not class it as contents loss -its damage to vehicle. 100% sure on this. You make a claim for damage, get a quote from a garage and get it fixed. If there is no choice on your form for 'Vehicle Damage ' then just tick the 'no' box

If I understand correctly the claim has already been settled and Oldchestnuts is getting quotes for his upcoming insurance renewal

Barry I know that. He is on a comparison site filling in the 'previous claims' section and was asking if he should put 'contents loss'. I suggested if there was no choice of 'Vehicle Damage' then he should just leave the section blank or put 'none'. Comparison sites only ask the minimum anyway and you still have to fill in a more detailed form if you choose to go with a particular Insurer.

Thanks for all the advise. I had renewed with the existing company as the other companies have very similar quotes and just more hassle to declare the claims on the theft of the cat.
My advise is not to buy another hybrid until the government has an interest to deal with these thieves. I am going to sell it off and get an old diesel or petrol. All these thieves are doing is to put people off saving the planet.

all cars have cats except very old ones though?

Not sure what you mean. Our Trucks are diesel, and they all have catalytic convertors. You will have to buy a very old vehicle ( pre 1992) to avoid one that has no Cat on it.
