What are some well written and mature romance novels about a man who either hates the world or is an alcoholic, and no matter how much *** he puts his female partner through she rehabilitates him? ps Any reason a man would be closed off from love?
It is normally women who read romance books. I read one when I was about twelve but it was rubbish and not at all what I expected.
Our Oxfam bookshop sells Mills&Boon and one guy used to come in each week and buy six. He always had to say that it was for his mum, he usually looked embarrassed. He was a big, scary-looking guy but it was sweet of him to buy the books.
Are we reading sex for romance? If so I don't think my suggestions have very much in them, although I haven't actually got thru more than about 10 pages of wuthering heights
Try these: Arrowsmith by Sinclair Lewis, Fight Club by Chuck Pahlaniuk, The Tenant of Wildfell Hall by Bronte, The Rum Diary by H.S. Thompson, Tender Is The Night by F.Scott Fitzgerald, The Idiot by Dostoevsky, and Oliver Twist by Dickens... I'll try to think of more titles to refer to you. The aforementioned aren't likely a perfect fit, but all worthwhile reads with troubled relationships.
