Whatever you called it - the children's club at the local cinema. Every Saturday morning the doors would be flung open to welcome a horde of screaming kids to a delight of a film, a running series and cartoons, minus adults.
My grandchildren can't believe it happened, they think it's madness and I must agree with them :D
It was bedlam. We threw sweets at each other, sneaked our pals in through the back door, spilt pop everywhere, stuck bubble gum to the seats, screamed throughout and generally ran amok.

What on earth was the cinema bosses thinking? It must have cost more in cleaning up than they took. Could this be revived today?

We come along on Saturday morning
Greeting everybody with a smile.
We come along on Saturday morning
Knowing it is well worth while.
As members of the GB club
We all intend to be
Good citizens when we grow up
and champions of the free.
We come along on Saturday morning
Greeting everybody with a smile, smile, smile.

I remember we were called the ABC minors and watched 3 hours of film every Saturday. we were also in a club and if it was your birthday that week you went on stage for a present. It was a great Saturday morning treat, 6d bus fare, there and back, 6d entry and 3d for some chips wrapped in newspaper. 15d all in, or about 6 pence.
Talking Pictures do kids' programmes on Saturday mornings. This weekend it will be a Green Hornet episode, Mr Horatio Knibbles, a Dick Tracy episode, Phantom Empire with Gene Autry and a Look at Life. If watching, try to make sure your kids don't let the entire neighboruhood in at your side doors.
Don't think we had smelly girls at the fleapit on Saturday mornings. Remember us booing a bit when a 'baddie' appeared on screen but we saved our real scorn and projectiles for any women who appeared.
Especially if they was kissing and canoodling with our heroes.
Happy days.
