One of the little bees in my bonnet is the pejorative term 'Jobsworth' for someone who is trying to do his/her job to the best of their ability. It is often used by someone who is being thwarted in some way by a poor soul who is trying to ensure that the rules set by others are complied with. His/her job is to monitor parking spaces, or provision of authorisation to enter somewhere, or some similar task which is required by the terms of his employment. If the thwarted person is full of self importance and feels scornful of 'lower life forms', then 'Jobsworth' is a useful way of letting off steam. I find that sort of attitude rather despicable.
What does AB think?
ok you are an idiot, this is the last time I will communicate with you in any way. I can't be bothered to remonstrate further with someone of such limited common sense and intellect. I will not join any of your threads and I urge you too avoid mine. Congratulations you join a very select list.
If your job is upholding unwieldy rules etc it can be difficult not to appear in some way a 'jobsworth' - I have tried by saying 'I realise this is a ridiculous rule,but...' ,it didn't go down well with management.
We later had a meeting and a better way was introduced.
Togo, I'm retired. I never drove a truck; once drove Noel Murphy and Christie Moore round a northern tour (I was slumming it at the time). They were at daggers drawn most of the time and broke the door lock on our trannie! But apart from that, lovely men!
