...I'd have thought even Rodders would be weary of someone who'll do anything to get his own way. Not to mention being the worst most bias speaker in history. He's all yours Rodders!

you're obviously not too clear about the speaker's job, but since Charles I's day it's included asserting the rights of parliament against an overweening executive.
So about 10 years ago, Bercow allowed Tory eurosceptics to add an amendment to the Queen's speech, which Cameron did not want, calling for a Brexit referendum. He was doing his job, and had he not done so you wouldn't be where you are today.
I don't know why I have to give these British history lessons.

"Apparently he was nominated but it was knocked back by the appointments committee as he is still under some kind of parliamentary investigation."
There is no parliamentary investigation because when he was still Speaker, Bercow's allies in Parliament voted against the investigation of alleged bullying. Until Bercow submits to an investigation, and that investigation clears him, the appointments committee will never allow any nomination with the shadow of bullying behaviour to succeed, thus this block upon gaining a peerage is entirely of his own making.

gromit: "Very petty and mean spirited of the Boris Junta to deny the ex-speaker an honour. " - very petty and mean spirited to try and thwart the will of the nation. Doesn't deserve a peerage after defiling the office. I was going to say Lindsay Hoyle is head and shoulders above Bercow but that goes for every other speaker even gorballs Mick!
jno, //I don't know why I have to give these British history lessons.//
Considering you have it conveniently skewed, please spare us your dubious talents as a teacher of history. You say that despite Cameron's opposition, Bercow allowed Tory Eurosceptics to add an amendment to the Queen's speech, but bearing in mind Bercow's subsequent performance when he showed his true colours with regard to Brexit, one can only imagine that his original decision was not a product of even-handedness, but simply an exercise in exerting his power. He overrode Cameron not from any sense of duty or fairness but simply because he could. The man is a control freak. The best thing he could do for the country is fade into obscurity.
