Landlord And Repairmen Constantly In The Basement Under My Room. What Should I Do?

am new to having a basement as I'm from parts that don't have any. So I need some wisdom on how to deal with this. I moved in about a month ago come Oct. Since I've moved in there has been constant construction happening to the home. They have been in our bathroom to remodel almost every week I lived here and still need to finish. Its a 2 family home. I live on the first floor with roommates and the landlords live upstairs. The landlord has his basement, under my room, set up as a workshop. Everyday he or somebody is down there at lengths of time. What's worse is I never know sometimes if some stranger to me is under me for whatever reason. I feel so uncomfortable because I can hear anyone under there as if they were in my room at normal talking volume and I'm going to assume it's the same way around. I feel extremely uncomfortable to just freely be in my room. I don't feel a sense of privacy and I just can't fully relax in my own "private space." Apparently everyone before me had no issue but I think that is just because they're the personality types that don't mind. I am and I think if I'm paying rent part of what I'm paying for is to have privacy in my personal bedroom at least. I don't feel comfortable having conversations, phone calls or even watching something without headsets. I know its the landlords basement so I can't just say you can't go into your basement but this is almost ridiculous the amount that he or other guys are down there.

Advice please!

It would have been polite of them to have informed you at the start of your tenancy that the basement was effectively the maintenance area.

Not wholly sure what you can do about it now.
You mention being on the first floor. Are you in the USA?
