You couldn't imagine Minnie Caldwell or Ena Sharples smashing a milk stout bottle on the table in the snug and slashing someone with it.

I think Jez Quigley was a very violent character back in the late 90s and of course Alan Bradley was before that.
For me the most disturbing scene in Corrie was not really violent - nobody was hurt or died. David Platt casually throwing peanuts at his mother, ignoring her requests to stop.
Sadly, the more violent and shocking the storyline, the bigger the headline in the media.

'Back in the day' it was acceptable to a man or woman to give the spouse a slap or thump in the soaps, now we don't see that at all. There have been two big domestic violence storylines in Corrie in recent years that have grabbed the headlines but the casual slaps have stopped. I think that is a good thing.
