Random Comment…….. (I’m Bored! )

Sat in hospital bed, nurse came to put new drip up. We started talking about the horrible weather, and I said bet it wasn’t fun coming to work in this rain. She said oh not too bad - bus is at top of my road and stops right outside the hospital. So I asked where she lived and she told me. That’s where I live I said! And it’s not that big a place really. So I asked what road, and she told me - it’s literally the next road but one to mine. So I’ve probably walked past her god knows how many times in the last few years. Just made me smile. Anyone else got any random comments, things to share??

I recognised the accent immediately, asked where they were from and they said oh you won't know it, a little village in County Durham. Turned out it was the same village where my English nana had lived, and within walking distance of her old house.

Going on a works fishing trip out of Brixham some years we were queuing in a cafe for some breakfast before we went out I placed my order and there was a couple of bloke in front who looked like they were trawlermen turned round and said "that's a Bedminster accent if ever I heard one" I live about 2 miles from Bedminster, Bristol.
Many years ago I was on holiday in Calgary with a friend but visiting my boyfriend (he was Canadian). He took us to top of an alp or mountain or whatever. It was quite a cloudy day and he thought we wouldn't be able to see much. However we drove a good bit up then we got the cable car on up to the top. There were about 10 people at the top. My friend asked me to use the telescope to try and see down - a gentleman came over and asked her - was she from Belfast (he heard the accent) - she said yes and with more conversation - the gentleman had actually played golf with her dad in Belfast. He too was from Belfast.
While i was serving in the Junior Leaders Regiment, Royal Artillery, we were sent on adventure training for a fortnight in Wales. We had been there about a week when we were split into groups of 4, driven up a mountainside, given some rations, a map and a compass and were told we had 24 hours to get back to camp. Very early the following morning, Sunday, my group of 4 came down a hillside into a tiny village where we found a newsagents open. We bought fags, chocolate, fizzy drinks, etc (things not provided in the rations). However, the newspapers had yet to be delivered so i asked the newsagent if he knew the football scores from the previous day. He asked if it was the Burnley result i wanted to know. Turns out he had owned a newsagents in Burnley for 20 odd years and recognised my accent.
