Back To Front Q In Penrith

On holiday in the Lake District this week and visited Penrith today. Beautiful old architecture and walking down a road called Queen Street. Noticed that the very old street sign high on the houses had the Q of Queen back to front on both ends of the street and wondered if this has been seen before anywhere else in England ?

I looked on Google Streetview following your post and notice that the street signs are all the old-style cast iron ones. I wonder if it was just an error when they were made? I notice none of the other signs in the road have the strange Q (nursery etc) which they might have if there was some odd reason for it.

Perhaps ? Have never seen that kind of Q before. I did wonder if it was a Victorian typo.
