harry potter- WHY?!

does anyone read anything other than harry potter? i thinks it quite a sorry state that this is an art and literature page but every other question is about harry potter? in fact there's only 5 questions out of the twenty on this page that aren't about harry potter. whats going on people? is it a sad reflection of our society and culture (dumbed- down, pop and reality tv obsessed)that so many adults read what is fundamentally a children's book?

First of all, it's not Harry Pothead, it's Harry Potter. And he didn't pull the rememberall from a tree, he caught it in the air like the snitch. She couldn't have robbed it from that book, considering that it wasn't taken down from a tree. Also, just because it's a children's book doesn't mean anything. The Chronicles of Narnia are children's books, and they're fantastic. Just because you're an adult doesn't mean you can't read children's books. Half of children's books now days are for any age. The style of writing is fine. I understand that maybe the comment was made because some people find it difficult to expand their horizons in literature. I also believe that none of you have any right to sit there and criticize J.K. Rowling's work. I don't see any of you coming out with a bestselling book, let alone a bestselling series.

I nerevr wanted to read the harry potter's in the first place then i read the fisrt one and found it amusing... the second one was amusing too, yet a little disappointing. the third one... i fell in love... and at the end of the fourth, all i wanted to do is read them all again.... But I guess every one is different. I have a huge imagination, and even at my age, i still need to read those kind of books.... makes the inner child in me stay alive. But GEEDOGG, you are right.... this isn'T the place to talk about Harry Potter. A lot of forums already exists for that. And Harry Potter is referred to as Children Litterature. Anyways... It is true tough that everybody makes a big deal out of it!

YEA,am 14 and a like them and dat but come on man expand your mind read somthin more challengin and find somthin better to do than try and fighure out the end to a kids story about some wee dud who can do some cool S.h.I.T , Red hot chilli Peppers Rull!!!!!!!!!

I too have tried to read Harry Potter but couldn't get into the first book, and I thought the first film was tedious. I'd be happier about Harry Potter, if it weren't that the characters and situations seem so clearly derived from other sources, principally Dickens' Oliver Twist. I don't think the stories are as inventive as they're cracked up to be either: whenever Rowling paints herself into a corner with say a secret library that needs to be broken into, there's always an invisible cloak you've never heard of before turning up. I've also noticed that lately Rowling is filling her pages with adjectives and adverbs, which is rule one don't do if you want to write a gripping story and which accounts for the massive heft of the books now. But the people at the publishers seem gutless now regarding Rowling, afraid to question the golden goose. Maybe Harry Potter does as I am always being told encourage children to read, and maybe better authors such as Philip Pullman will do well from that, but I think what we're seeing is some sort of mass hysteria among children which you get now and then, where kids seem forced by peer pressure into thinking something is great which is really just OK. There's nothing wrong with it, because kids aren't stupid and they'll eventually find what's right for them.

I find it annoying when people say that harry potter is a little kiddies book and that anyone under 11 should be ashamed of themselves if they enjoy reading it. The fact that there is so many questions about it on this website is living proof that it is a masterpeice. I do admit that the first one is very hard to get into, but once you have got into the series they are hard to put down. The films are RUBBISH and they are a great discredit to the books. They portray them ina very bad light and the rason is that JKRowling had no say in them atall. They get everthing wrong and do not follow the books carefully atall. People that have read the books and not seen the films shoul NOT see them as they spoil your imagination of Hogwarts and every other feature of the magical world

Come on now! Harry Potter is awesome! What's not to like? The fact that it increases people's (Kid;s as well as adult's) imagination. It is a great bokk that doesn't deal with swearing or any other sick stuff. I agree that the first book is made out to be for younger audiences! Luckily I began with the third one because I got it for a christmas gift! If you just read book five you'll see that the Harry Potter series is forwarded to an older audience. As an answer to your question, it is safe to say millions of people love reading harry potter right? Well then it is no surprise that when news comes out of a new book that those millions of peole will get excited.

I'll never understand why people say that Harry Potter is childish. Yes, they are books written for kids but that's not a reason as to why adults can't enjoy it. Arguably the themes are pretty dark. I mean countless deaths, tortured till insane, murder, killing innocent children, war, discrimination. I'm not saying you have to like the books, but don't hate on something you've never read. When people *** talk Harry Potter I don't even think they know what the story is about. The whole plot is essentially about bigotry (having "pure" blood). Don't get me started on JKR, I can still enjoy her work but I do not support her views.
