Try as they may, some people appear to be life's losers, failing consistently to get along with those around them, finding themselves, metaphorically, walking the plank on a regular basis, and very often blaming anyone and anything apart from themselves. Are you one of them - and if so, why do you think that is?

That's the film, Naomi. Monroe and Gable's last ever movies.

Montgomery Clift plays one of the other main characters.
He came up with one of the best lines, which has always been a sort of mantra for me...........

Asked why they go off into the desert to round up wild horses for a living, he says:
"Anything's better than wages..." ;o)
Are You A Square Peg In A Round Hole?

Yes...
I don't belong here baby
I have lots of really good friends in real life and get on with everyone. I'm the sort of person people start to randomly talk to in a queue. My friends are my friends because we are honest, I will go out and pick someone up after midnight if they've missed a ride, give them money to pay a vets bill or buy them something they need. But also they know I will tell the truth if their bum looks big in that skirt or their hairstyle doesn't suit them. 'Ask AuntP she'll tell you straight' is a mantra I'd rather have than falsely massaging a strangers ego to make false friends. This attitude doesn't transpose well into public forums where people have 'agendas' and feign 'outrage' for their own purposes.
I know I've posted the song Creep a few times on AB as responses to OPs but I feel the lyrics reflect how I feel at times in certain situations.
// 'Ask AuntP //

Aunty Peggie?
Aunt Polly togo -except that's my pseudonyme :-)
I've not read past the first few replies...and I've never known "loser" to be the definition of someone who is a "square peg in a round hole". More likely someone who is very individual, a quirky character, who goes their own way.
correct Pasta, I think Naomi got a bit confused with her Idioms.

Regarding the content of the OP, I shall offer forth my own Idiom "It takes one to know one" :-)
Not a loser in any way, always a bit different and individual - my Dad always said 'Our Lynne marches to the beat of her own drum' (not original, I know).
Naomi - // Are You A Square Peg In A Round Hole? //

No.

Are you?
And my Dad said ( quote) J, you’re too soft and sensitive to clag holes in pet
Not a misfit then? Riigghht. We all need another analogy or similitude then ... if you say so.
I feel like a square peg in a round hole but don’t consider myself a loser.
I don’t blame anyone for my awkwardness, except maybe my mum for not passing on the chatty gene that the rest of the family have.
Not her fault either, really.
Well, I've often thought of myself as a square peg in a round hole...and once I got past youth, I learned to be proud of it. It meant I wasn't following the crowds...well, not too much ;)
Togo - // Not a misfit then? Riigghht. We all need another analogy or similitude then ... if you say so. //

Is your post addressed to anyone in particular?
Perhaps Togo is using the scatter gun approach, risky.
Mamya - // Perhaps Togo is using the scatter gun approach, risky. //

Possibly.

Doubt that it's risky though, most people will simply assume it is not addressed to them, and ignore it, and that may include the actual intended recipient(s) if there is one / are any.

Sometimes people can be cryptic to the point of oblivion.

Gosh … so many ideas… and most are right of course. Not all square pegs are losers - but those who find themselves permanently at odds with the rest of the world very often are.

Me, AH? Not a loser by any means - far from it - but definitely a square peg - and I wouldn’t have it any other way. ;o)
Nah, I'm well aware that I'm to blame for 95% of my misfortunes, and that other 5% can be filed under "sh-- happens".
