Hi
I have a washing machine that probably needs new drum bearings. It looks to me that i have to first remove the door seal so i can remove the drum, i can just see a wire with a couple of loops on that is hooked together, does anyone know how to remove it.
Thanks

If they say leave well alone then take it as red that you should do so ... these guys do this sort of stuff day in day out ... what leads you to think the bearings are gone ? Do you know you can obtain new ones ?

I did an Indesit bearing. This involved taking off the top and back of the cabinet. Undoing a big metal band that holds the back of the drum container on. Removing the drum. Driving out the old bearing (Clogged with old conditioner, expect a gooey mess everywhere). Cleaning the seating and driving the new bearing in sqarely with a suitably sized drift. And reassembly. It took a matter of hours. The bearing seatings are often cast from an alloy that could be easily damaged. It is not a 5 minute job and you will need patience and some wood or plastic tubing OF THE RIGHT DIAMETER, to drive the new bearing home. I would tackle one again but reluctantly. Good luck.

The machine is under three years old and was replaced by a relative when it went wrong. As it was given to me, I thought I would try to mend it. I'm in no rush and just thought someone might have tips.I am a toolmaker and a model engineer and have been a car mechanic so I feel able. The actual problem is the inner drum is loose in one place and I think a bracket might have broke on the inner bearing. The wire holding the seal is unknown to me, it looks like a special tool is needed but if it wont pull off I will cut the seal so that when I can get the drum assembly out from the body I will be able to work out how to remove it or make a tool. I can get replacement parts. Thanks for reading.
