Hello Ray, don't know much about the origins of romany names but I do know that the Duckett's are a significant family all round the south of England and Dyett doesn't seem far away to that for me for an oral tradition. Dukkering is fortune telling so maybe from that?
Hi nox cheers for that, they were mostly in the London area, I remembered the word dukkering, terrible trouble trying to trace the family down that route, all I have found out is they sold fruit & veg from a seperate horse & cart they had, fascinating how we evolve, my dad was very good with the Romany language, wish I had listened more, our ancestors could teach us so much if we would only listen,
thanks again, Ray

I have heard the name Ducketts mentioned, as you say though,no true gypsies any more, my great nan had a look of an american indian squaw with a real roman nose.
