Ian Wright's Unfit Kids...
6 Answers
Did anyone watch this programme last night? I was so shocked by the reactions of some of the parents!
I can understand the parent's not wanting Ian to shout at their kids, but they should at least be grateful that he's trying to reduce their children's chances of dying at a young age because of their obesity.
One of the mother's was obese herself yet she was constantly mouthing off at Ian. You'd think that being so self-concious herself that she, perhaps even more than the other parents, would want to help her son avoid an early grave and show a bit of support and appreciation for what Ian's trying to do!
Any thoughts?

And the way she spoke to him, yer give him a bit of encouragement but to say I might as well chuck you under a F**king bus is a bit harsh.
I agree completely - I couldn't believe she said that to him! And then she had the cheek to have a go at Ian for shouting encouragement! You'd think she would take a look at herself and realise how she's sending her poor son down the same path. As far as I could see she was just giving excuse after excuse after excuse - the poor kid needed encouragement and instead she put all the blame on him!
Sorry for my rant, but it really infuriates me that people let their children get into such poor health.

This is another example of inadequate individuals (and the childrens' parents!) jumping through hoops for the 'entertainment' of the viewing public.
A mother who is not exactly banging on the door of MENSA is unlikely to understand the difference between robust encouragement and simply yelling at a fat kid, hence her tirade. I only caught that one bit - I was channel-hopping, and I never stay longer than a minute or two on any programme featuring Ian Wright.

I watched it all the way through and the lack of respect some of those children showed towards Ian was outrageous, they seemed to be so obstinate and lazy, did they think it was going to be easy to totally change their lives? they were all lazy and ignorant, the parents of some of them were just the same, but the excuses 'he has rehearsals' was just proving how they had gone into the programme without any commitment or positive intent. Ian Wright didn't have to get involved, I am sure he is quite busy anyway, but the production team will have chosen the candidates based on their health issues and their willingness to appear. The editing was quite probably done to highlight this resistance at an early stage in the series, probably the following shows will show how the kids either quit of become success stories. As a viewer i am not fooled by the way these type of programmes draw us into the human aspect of the people involved, we easily judge them by how they come across, no doubt the families involved will today be saying, that is not how it was they have just taken that few minutes from months ago and edited it wrongly. This happened with Paul on the Strictly Dance Fever show and so i can see now how it works.
