Pulmonary Embolism
5 Answers
I suffered a pulmonary embolism in 2013 and lately have been having symptoms like that again and wonder if this is likely. Having phoned the local surgery to run it past them I was told that I had to call back on Monday and they would then evaluate the symptoms.
Other than the breathlessness when I do anything i am OK
Any advice would be helpful

Although if your only symptom is breathlessness on exertion it does seem quite unlikely. In my experience actually very few people present with leg swelling or significant chest pain with PE.
Most hospitals have ambulatory care units with specific PE pathways to try and diagnose and treat people quickly avoiding the need to go through a+e. It’s a shame your GP didn’t refer to this. Did you actually speak to a medic or just a receptionist?

Thank you for all tips and going back to my 2013 episode and it was a case of being unable to exert myself to do anything which took effort. Going upstairs was a trial. I had a slight swelling in one leg. I had just been on a trip to Spain and found that exhausting but did make every effort to not keep our friends back but was glad of all the stops for rest.
When home and a visit to the doctor landed me in hospital for 5 days and then on warfarin for 6 months with the assurance that that was me cured.
