Vehicle Indictors Not Working
A work colleague recently experienced a fault on his 20 plate Dacia Duster – where none of the right turn indicators were working. Before a repair was effected, a number of us offered possible causes/solutions. The owner knew it could not be due to blown bulbs, which would have had to have all blown at the same time. Suggestions included a faulty turn signal flasher unit, or a relay that had fallen out of its socket due to vibration.
In order to drive home safely, I suggested he attach a BMW emblem to the vehicle, so that other road users would be aware that he did not give turn signals.
Given that the most technically advanced electronic component within Dacia cars is likely to be the turn signal flasher unit – it was a surprise to learn that the fix was to disconnect and reconnect the vehicle battery (effectively resetting the ECU).
The above shows that more and more vehicle systems are becoming reliant on the ECU operating correctly – once it becomes faulty you will be receiving an expensive repair bill for a replacement.
