Hi malshy,
If they are annual poppies, they should germinate very easily, you can sow seeds where they are to flower and thin out as required.
Biennials are best sown in August then thined out in April.
Perenials are usually propagated either by root cuttinggs or dividing clumps in the autumn. Good luck Tbird+
Sorry, I meant to add sow annual poppy seeds in April.
As noted, poppies propogate very readily. However, they do prefer tilled soil. Which is why so many grow in cornfields and battlefields.
