A Silly Food Shopping Quiz

I went over by $3. Is food dearer in the States?

Supposedly not. First I did all bits I'd normally buy and I was over by $12/£9. So I dropped the chicken.
I was wondering how much processed junk I'd need to buy to stay within budget.

Food is really expensive in the US (well decent food anyway) You can go to a deli in Manhattan and buy some salmon with mash and veg and it will be $13. That's for a plastic tub of food. Not even served on a plate.

I just remembered what I normally do when I'm shopping. (e.g. while ordinary long grain rice is cheap, the instant stuff is expensive. Similarly, basic types of pasta are cheap but others might not be. I also know that bananas are one of the cheapest fruits available). With that lot in mind, I came out under budget, with a $23 spend.

came in $2 under - fresh meat in the States now costs a pretty dollar - the diet chosen would be cr-ap though......

That's what I thought too Tilly. I kept trying to get both bacon and eggs, and chicken and pork chops but I wasn't allowed as I had to choose a few less acceptable items to fill the tests requirements.

String cheese...eeeuuww, why no real cheese?
Hot dogs

Tuna...I can make mayo to make it edible
Onion...I'm assuming I already have butter, olive oil, and garlic

I think I'll stay where i am looking at these prices - I can almost do a weeks shop for myself in Aldi for €16
