Attachments and Outlook Express

I have long used OE successfully but now I am using a computer at work whereby I find I cannot open Word attachments, although all others I have received so far are OK. Any suggestions on how to get over this - I have eliminated the possibility of Norton causing it.

First easy obvious one....do you have Word installed on that PC?......If so make sure it is set in attributes to open all .doc files.

There is a security feature in OE that blocks access to unsafe attachments which includes Word docs. Goto Tools -> Options then click the security tab. Uncheck the box that says "Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened..." and you should see all attachments. Ensure that your virus software is up to date though!!!

Word documents can contain macros, and thus viruses so it's no surprise that sometimes security folks don't like them to be downloaded and opened as attachments. One way of possibly getting around it would be to zip the Word Document and have this emailed to you - this would greatly reduce its file size too.
