job satisfaction

Hi everyone!! hope your all having a good day! jus wondered how many of you out there genuinely feel satisfied with your job?? i am going through a bad patch with mine at the moment and am seriously reconsidering my whole career which is quite daunting actually. Especially as i have absolutely no idea what i wanna do!! Any suggestions would be appreciated too! Thanks guys! xxx

All I can say mimi is if you don't like it pack it in, I know people will say I am crackers but so what, I have never stuck in a job I didn't like my record is 10 minutes and I told them to stuff it, we spend a lot of time at work,so we might as well be happy, my wife has despaired of me at times,but that is me, hope you sort something mimi, be happy.

Wise words Ray, your work should be a pleasure and you should look forward to it. I work for myself so that's easy for me to say, but I never could abide working at something I didn't enjoy and you can always find something that makes money that you do enjoy, so take the plunge and do something else.

15 months ago I started my ideal job, I had all of the oppoprtunity I wanted I was given more and more work which I excelled in, I have developed web pages and reports and am still on the same wage as I started. It is getting pretty messy now because it has got to the point that I will not do the work if it is not being recognised. I have more responsibility than my line manager, and a recent job evaluation suggested that I ought to be paid at least another �7K per year.

I know money isn't everything but they are recruiting in other units for the job that I currently doing, with the pay reflected, and I am in a real dilemna whether to leave or not. I have applied anyway to see what will come of it but I think you should go for it.

The sad thing is I love my job, I have made some fantastic friends and it is the best office I have ever worked in. When I start a family I know I will be well looked after maternity wise, but the other part of me thinks that the extra money would be really handy in that circumstance also. Plus I would probably also get very good maternity benefits in the other post.

Check things out, and when it comes to the crunch (univeristy placement, job offer, etc) then review your options.

Oh and the other thing is that me and hubby are going for a mortgage within the next six months, and so really need to change jobs now if at all in order to get the mortgage. And again.... would get bigger mortgage with bgger wage!

I love the job that I'm doing at the moment, and actually miss it when I'm not there! (I manage a residential home for adults with learning disabilities.) You have to spend so much of your life at work, you really should try to find something that you enjoy. Good luck.x

Thank you for all your encouragement guys! i know deep down that i should look for something else as i know i will never be happy doing what im doing at the moment. Problem is i am a teaching assisstant and i had planned to go on to do my pgce and become a teacher. however since taking this position im quite sure it is not the career for me but where i had everything planned in my head i have no idea where to go from here or what i would like to do. I have an english degree and a good cv but i just dont know what kind of job would suit me best!! Im so stressed out with it all!! ah well at least it is friday!! x

mimi, with what you have why not give adult teaching a try for people with learning problems, you sound ideal for that. but whatever you decide, be happy, take care, Ray

Have never considered adult teaching but will definately look in to it! Thanks Ray! And nursing is something i had thought about but i didnt think i could do it without having to go back and study for a long time!

If you are in the position to change jobs, I would. I am stuck in a job that I don't particularly like but with a huge mortgage I can't stop to retrain. My aunt has just left her job and is in the lucky position of being able to start again with going back to college for a whole new career as a midwife, she is unemployeed/no family etc and is on benefits. Although I am very glad I am self sufficient, I would love to be able to retrain. So go for it if you can, while you can.
