I bought 3 gingerbread men yesterday from Sainsburys for my 3 young grandsons, on checking the receipt they are marked down as 'gingerbread persons', you couldn't make it up, it's an insult to the intelligence of 99% of 'normal' thinking people!

//and why should men be the default?//

They are not, think about Housewife :-)

The FRench have all sorts of defaults,(male and female) should they change them all to a neutral? Good luck with that, your wokey ass would be booted right out.
I don't know about the French language. And I don't think it matters whether they are called gingerbread men, women, people, or whatever - they're just biscuits - but if it doesn't matter, then why not make it more inclusive, there's no harm in it. I hardly think that makes me woke, and the incessant use of woke as an insult on this forum is pretty irritating.
Misscherry, but wasn't the word woke coined as a derogatory term?
We should be glad English doesn't usually have genders for nouns. In German the word for 'girl' is neuter, and in French the word for 'vagina' is masculine!
Not originally, Danny. It more meant aware, and was changed to an insult.
Misscherry has a point, in that, while not one of these things mean much in isolation.... all added up together, show a general unhealthy mindset. And although I wouldn't say every little example needs addressing .... they are all worth a passing thought.
and 'moustache' is feminine
At least we are finally recognising sex isn't gender. Happy days :-)
My sainsburys receipt is never that clear! it would say "ggrbd prsn" or something like that. So perhaps you CAN make it up?
On fb... I think, and maybe someone could confirm or say otherwise?
I'm sure I used to get a notification saying, eg,
It's Emma's birthday- wish her happy birthday.... kind of message.
Now it says... "wish 'them' a happy birthday"?
Agree.
I've really no idea why things like this wind people up so much.
Because this is AB home of the eternally outraged
Thanks, MWG x
And why exactly does this little change concern people so much? Harms no-one at all.
Because it's the thin end of the red wedge.
You think you can ratchet normal people out of existence but we have our eye on you.
Stoppit! That's twice I've spilt my brew.

I always wondered what to do with that little bit of left over dough.
