My wee Amazon Fire 7 is a year and half old - bought it in May 2020 but not working as I think it should. I use it a lot so is that old.

No, it isn't old. I find that taking devices back to factory settings helps revive them but it does mean you have to back up everything first - it will be exactly as it was when you first turned it on.

Don't do it unless you are absolutely sure that is what you want to do. Your photos, files, everything will be gone. Back up first

thanks Barry - I do have niece's partner who is quite good with things like that if I can get him. I wouldnt like to lose my photos of Maxie and last Christmas when I decorated the house for the first time ie like for Christmas and they were nice.

So I will let somebody do that.
// not working as I think it should //

That is a bit vague. Your device is only 16Gb which is quite low.
No its not old, my Ipad is 8 years old and working brilliantly
JJ, you should be backing up your files and photos anyway - if your Fire stops working altogether you may lose them if you don't
Mine is 7 years old and the old problem with mine, is that it takes a while to charge. So I suspect the battery is going.
