Price Tags.
Hi.....I quite recently bought a pair of trousers from a well known and reputable high street store. I was so delighted with the price that I went back today for another pair, which were still on the same rack as when I bought the first pair...but....they had been raised in price........only by a small amount I must say but when I got them home I noticed that the new higher price tag was in fact a new label stuck on top of the old lower price...........
I had thought, maybe mistakenly, that this practice was illegal and if not, at least I would have thought that it would be beneath this particular store to trade in this way............
Any thoughts, comments or even facts on this would be appreciated..............thanks in advance.

It is legal for shops to change their prices ... up and down. If you had noticed the price change while in the shop, you could have mentioned it to the person at the till. They may well have let you have the trousers at the cheaper price. Who knows?
It's the same old thing, they can charge what they like when they like with any conditions they like. They do not even have to sell it at the marked price. For example if something is marked up as 1 when it should be 2 then when you get to the till they can still charge 2 even though it is marked as 1. These days of bar coding etc have pretty much illiminated this sort of mistake.
Hi all..........well, seems you were all right and as promised here is the answer I got from..........well, I won't say who but it
wasn't a market stall in my home town that's for sure...;-) Still, it might just help sombody in the future.
"We have confirmed with our consumer protection lawyer that we are able
to cover an existing price sticker with the new correct price sticker.
This kind of practice is fine as long as the incorrect price is
completely covered and where possible we use permanent stickers that are
difficult to peel off. I hope this clarifies things for you."
