It is quite common in Middle Eastern Countries and i have dealt with a couple of cases. When the leech hasn't had a drink of blood, it is so thin that it is invisible to the naked eye and when the individual drinks water with the leech in, it is sniffed into the nose. In the nose it injects a local anesthetic and a "sticky" solution which enables it to stick to the host....
Me as well Elina i seriously cant imagine what it must have been like for daniela to have and find the leech i live in nottingham and they would have heard me in vietnam if that had happened to me even though it has now been removed i shudder to think if she hadnt realised it was there what could have happened because in the paper it doesnt say but well done to daniela who appears to have taken it all in her stride

In the nose it injects a local anesthetic and a "sticky" solution which enables it to stick to the host. In this position it sucks up blood and gets "fat" and can only be removed with great difficulty and cannot get to the other parts of the body.......it cannot get to the brain.
The Arabs have a technique for removing it by blowing cigarette smoke into the nose and that seems to do the trick.
