advice needed about storage

we have most of our stuff in storage in the uk as we are renting after just selling our house and relocating area where we were gonna wait to buy. we are now moving to live in the states. i will obviously have to go through our storage stuff with a fine toothcomb before going to the states (nb hubbys boss is paying for relocation so amount not such an issue but dont want to end up taking things we really wont need) but... want to know if we have to take our stuff to someone who does international shipping etc or will they come to our storage place and take out all our stuff and put it in their crates? im getting so wound up about the logistics of all this!! our storage people at the moment dont send stuff to the states.

My sister relocated to the States last year and the company who shipped her stuff from her house came to her house and packed everything for her in their own shipping boxes. She wasn't able to pack anything herself as it is a regualtion that they do it (I guess for smuggling reasons etc.) She was warned that some things she was wanting to take with her might not pass customs and get into the States - these were things like unvarnished wood carvings! Make sure you have the appropriate insurance too. Hope this is of some help.
