Unlike the OP, I refuse to besmirch the entire country for one person's action, but this is horrifying. There doesn't even seem to be a legitimate reason to draw the weapon, far less fire it. This should be another manslaughter case.

That is the problem when you allow everyone to be armed, including drunks, druggies and lunatics. Police have to assume everyone has a gun. If they make any attempt to use said gun, then what do you do, let them shoot you first , to confirm it is a gun!

Nobody here knows the facts yet - it may be over zealous police but this will be investigated according to the article. I am not going to make any comment on that score until facts are known.

What we can say is that it was very tragic for the girl and snuffed her life before it had started, but until the USA ban guns to all and sundry, things like this will continue to happen. Don't be surprised!

A tragic accident, but US Police do have an unenviable poor record. Nearly a thousand dead this year.
