Came home from London for holidays and self tested positive when he got here onto the Island. We were all supposed to meet up tonight as well.
I’m glad he self tested or we all would have been exposed. It shows that personal responsibility can restrict this dreadful virus somewhat.
Pity he didn’t test before he left London.

Nailit - Why take a test if they dont work.....
we have had this more than once
Prof was contributing

LFTs are used at home and are very good for exclusion ( negative means you dont) - see here: https://www.gov.uk/order-coronavirus-rapid-lateral-flow-tests

PCR if you have symptoms - you might say 'erk!' - a theoretical physicist threw a wobbly at that one
it is clearly govt advice and we should follow it - whether or not intellectuals wobble

Explaining means covering a statistic called PPV and NPV - the Prof veered off that one - the theoretical physicist made an awful mess of it - the editor of the BMJ doesnt understand it
so lets leave it

thanks, Hopkirk, glad to hear it. Hopefully some people will learn from your experience.

Update. Nephew has symptoms of a cold or mild flu. Covid definitely, but in his case, mild.

Hardly a pandemic then?
(BTW Hope he recovers quickly David. Seriously.)
But over 99% of people recover from Covid. Its nasty and unpleasent
but a PANDEMIC?
If we were really in the midst of a pandemic, why would we need to be reminded every ten minutes on the radio, or daily on the tv and press?
Wouldnt it be obvious?
Wouldnt we ALL know someone who had died from it?
(Not WITH it)
Glad to read he's not too ill with it David.

Thanks mamyalynne. He is improving daily. My granddaughter and my daughter in law have now tested positive. Fortunately they too are not experiencing extreme responses at the moment. It’s rife now, and virtually unavoidable eventually. We should take heart that this latest variation is less virulent, and may even protect from future mutations.
Let's hope so.
