Clacton beach, Christmas Day:
Rough seas, a bitterly cold wind and driving rain. So, obviously, it's time for . . .

Errrrr nope!

Also I'd rather see pictures of those cute seals than those ;o)

Some of those guys seem to have roughly the same amount of blubber as the seals, Tigger ;-)
I could but won't, thank you.
Fish poop in it.
Question Author
There's probably far worse than fish poop in there, Alba ;-)
oh lawdy, yes, Chris, but really doesn't bear thinking about :-)))
A seal for tigger...she's been resident here for a while, and appeared yesterday.

Aww very cute Pasta :o)
Question Author
That's lovely, Pasta.

However it's a little sad that people in Plymouth only get just the one seal. The seal photographs I posted here the other day were taken on a beach in Norfolk where there are currently 4000 of them!
Eeek! I missed that. There I was thinking we were special. But then Norfolk is closer to the North Sea.
Question Author
whether one seal or many, anywhere which gets a visit from those cute little beggars is a lucky place (imo)

Question Author
I can't argue with that, Alba. Although anyone who gets a bit too close to them might find out that they're far from cute. There are large areas of their breeding grounds up in Norfolk that have been closed off to the public due to aggressive bull seals. Even the trained wardens, who normally go onto the beach to conduct weekly counts, can't access those areas at the moment.
Nobody like strangers getting too close to their homes lol

at the risk of being accused of being something-ist, I reckon cute is not an adjective for bull seals :-D
Majestic, but not cute
Personally, no, but then I'm not a keen swimmer in any location. My father used to swim off Lowestoft beach every Christmas, he did it for years. Brrrrrrrrr
they all appear to have swimming costumes on . . . wimps
Question Author
Thanks for the posts.

The Lowestoft event was cancelled this year, due to Covid concerns, Roo. Almost all of the other Christmas Day and Boxing Day dips/swims around here were called off too, either due to Covid or due to concerns over rough seas. With nobody formally organising it in the first place though, the Clacton event can never be called off, although the numbers there were substantially lower than usual this year.

Which one is you, Aelmpvw?
