Following the death of King Harold (Godwinson) at the battle of Hastings the next King of England was not William I but Edgar, we has never crowned but was king for 64 Days, elected by the Witen (Witenagemot) who had also elected King Harold following the death of Edward the Confessor with no clear heir.

More so than the continued bleating about Haggis breeding season or a nation Irn Bru shortage (or whatever the latest whinge north of the border may be)
