I've just found out how to pay in a cheque at an ATM by watching it on YouTube, but it didn't say if you have to sign the cheque on the back.
Last time I paid a cheque in was at my Santander bank but that is closed now and this is the first cheque I've received since then.
Presume I have to pay it into their ATM, but do I need to sign it or anything else? TIA

I have a co-op bank account so branches are virtually non existent. I get sent envelopes by the bank, put in the cheque and also a paying in slip either from a paying in book or in the back of my cheque book. Seal it and hand it in at the Post Office, who give me a receipt for it and then it takes one day for them to send it to the bank, then three days to clear into my account. I did have another cheque to pay into a dog club account and the Post Office gave me an envelope for the HSBC account and I didn't have a paying in slip but the bank details are written on the front.
I pay lots of cheques in to my Santander account at the post office. I have some santander envelopes at home which the post office gave me(but you can order some from the bank as well as paying in book). I do always write my name sort code and account number on back of cheque/s, plus I fill in a paying in slip which I sign. I fill in the account number on the front of the envelope. When I hand it in to post office counter they stamp it and give me a receipt. Our corner shop Spar has a post office so it's much easier than trailing to town to the bank.

When I go to the Post Office, I will ask if they can supply me with a few envelopes in case I get cheques sent in the future and I'll also take a paying in slip just in case that is needed along with my bank card and cheque.
Using Barclays app we can pay a cheque in by photographing it , no need to go anywhere, hmm wonder why branches are shutting down
