Dogs are never toys... brickbats approaching... :-)
Pixie, they shouldn't be toys, but what with the tedium of lockdown.....
Yes.... have a couple extra myself for that reason.
she looks like Shirley Ballas, the chief judge from Strictly, in canine form!
My little chap was bought by a young woman as a toy for her two young children. He snapped (not bit) at them inside two weeks so she took him to the vet to be put down. The vet refused as he found nine rotten teeth in his mouth. He ended up in a Rescue and he's now fast asleep by me on his sofa (white leather Tilly LOL).
Atheist whatever she looks like she's a dog and deserves a good home. It's simply awful that dogs are bred to look like toys, but they are still dogs and should be treated like dogs.
Towards the end of Lockdown 1, I spent a lot of time looking for a companion dog for our current 57-varieties-terrier rescue dog. I had to be specific in that it had to be a *** (he doesn't get on with dogs) and fairly quiet - quite happy to home an older dog - and not too large or requiring too much exercise (we couldn't put in the miles a Labrador would need for example). I got nowhere - and I looked for ages. Male bull-terrier crosses by the handsful! No terriers need apply - I have loads of them rolled into 1.

Perhaps it's time to start looking again if the situation is so desperate. Thanks.
^^^ Missing word was b*i*t*ch -- this is ridiculous! It's a thread about dogs!!
Jourdain, the eds said they had uncensored the word, but it doesn't seem to have worked.
jourdain try The Oldies Club - they specialise in helping older dogs to find a new home. often where older owners have passed away or gone into care and they have a nationwide network of homecheckers and transporters and will rehome to older people as well, which a lot of rescues won't. Not all their dogs are ancient, for example a Collie of around seven or eight, which is not really old for that breed. Also for anyone wanting a particular breed, the vast majority of pedigree breeds have a breed rescue and I can provide contact details.
Lankeela, I’ve never heard of that breed. They must be quite rare.

As for the cost of Khandro’s son’s dog, £2500 really is the going rate for poodles. You’ll possibly find lower prices among rogue traders though.

Khandro, whether she’s full pedigree or cross she’s beautiful. I’m not into showing dogs and all that sort of thing so posh or mutt, I love them all. Every dog we’ve ever owned has been a much loved member of our family and I’ve no doubt that gorgeous little girl is already adored by you and yours.
£2,500!?? Is that really what she cost? God I’m shocked - is that the going rate??
It is, snow.
On the contrary, it is the rogue traders who have pushed the prices up and don't do anything to justify it. I can put people in touch with reputable breeders of virtually any recognised breed who will charge a reasonable price, and the dogs will have a traceable pedigree and full health tests. If people would only stop paying these ridiculous amounts to money grabbing greeders and dealers then the bottom would fall out of the market. Trouble is most people won't be prepared to wait for a carefully bred puppy - they want one 'now' and preferably delivered to their local service station. I have people who have been waiting for over two years for a puppy because there was not one available from my previous litter which only had two boys in, and because I only breed when I want one to keep I have not bred from my girl till now. People slag off what they just refer to as 'breeders' as though it is a dirty word, but everyone who produces a litter is a breeder, yet they think they are entitled to mate anything to everything and produce all manner of crosses and poor specimens of pedigree breeds or breeds that are not recognised.
Lankeela, we looked long and hard for rescue dogs and when that proved futile we looked for puppies. The cost I’ve quoted we found to be pretty normal from reputable breeders. Truly.
Dogs are getting stolen at a very high rate since lockdown because the thieves can sell them for a lot, and I mean a lot, of money.
So when you're out walking your dogs keep a close eye on them.

naomi: You have seen as much of Fredericka (daft name) as I have, i.e. the photo. They are in Baden-Baden at the moment. D i L knows a lot about poodles (which I don't) she's had several. Money is no object for them & I know she travelled twice across Germany in the process of getting her.

I'll keep you posted. :0)
Please do.
Thanks for the info., Lankeela. We'll start hunting again. :)
