as mentioned on ITV's news earlier, today would have been David Bowie's 75th birthday, and 2 days short of the 6th anniversary of his passing. like him or not, his influence has been cast wide, not just amongst those for whom he was patron (Iggy Pop, Lou Reed, etc) but also the likes of Bauhaus, The Smiths, Joy Division and Yungblud.

a livestream event is being held today, organised by long-term Bowie band member Mike Garson. if you don't have time (or funds) for that and you feel his birthday should be marked (you may not, and that's fine....) then post your favorite track, or one that you think was notable for whatever reason.

to start - maybe not classic Bowie but a notable track, because on one level it's a funky tune, but on another level (typical Bowie) it's very much darker.

over to you.....

I know it was done by Mott the Hoople but he wrote and produced it.
Never knew that, tiggs.
This was better than we realised back then. Where is there anything remotely as interesting being recorded now? "The people from good homes are talking this year".

Featuring Luther Vandross on backing vocals.
The original version.
""One day, though it might as well be someday
You and I will rise up all the way
All because of what you are
The prettiest star""

I also like his 1960s stuff. The London Boys and Rubber Band are so twee,so gay,but nice to listen to.
Elvis Presleys birthday today as well.I dont know if they ever met,but i dont think it would be a good meeting.Bowie couldnt tie EPs shoelaces together, nevermind be compared to him.
Thanks for posting this, I'm a huge fan.
Togo your post is one of my fave.

I wouldn’t even try, there’s no comparison - both were of their time. Presley was at the height of his powers when singles were the main form of artist releases, Bowie at his height when albums were more to the fore. Presley was a terrific showman and could master most genres of music, Bowie mostly created all his own work (presley wrote very little original material). Both great but incomparable.
Sound and Vision is one of my Bowie favourites - love the intro
One of my all time fav Bowie tracks;

Ken, do you have a copy of the album with the uncensored artwork?
No mushroom. I bought the album from the Roundhouse in Hohne, W Germany and as far as i recall, it was the airbrushed version.
I don't think that the uncensored covers ever went on sale with an album. They were mistakenly sent out as promo stuff for retailers. Any with an album has had the album added ... I think.
